cuboree activites for cub groups

HURRY! REGISTRATION DEADLINE IS WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 21, 2011!

Registration is now open for the Cuboree - as announced earlier the Cuboree will be in association with the Wilderness Challenge at Camp Amisk. The camp fee is $12.00/youth which includes $4.00 for Cuboree activities and $8.00 for Wilderness Challenge activities.

Cub groups are invited to register for the Cuboree through the Wilderness Challenge web-site (www.wildernesschallenge.ca). The Cuboree program will start Saturday afternoon at 1:00 pm with a camp wide Grand Howl, followed by approximately four hours of program activities.

Groups are encouraged to set up camp Saturday morning; volunteers will be available on Friday night if groups want to set up Friday. Cub groups need to be self contained bringing their own food and equipment. If your group has not had experience with overnight camping, volunteers can help you. Please contact Mike at mhpapst@gmail.com for assistance.

Saturday program activities start at 1:30 and will involve groups moving through four activities:

➢ Woodchips and Saw Dust Axe, knife and saw safety through a series of fun activities. Youth and leaders are encouraged to bring their pocket knives and those dull old group axes.

➢ Compass Challenge Learn about the compass while participating in a game.
➢ Basic Pioneering Project Cubs are introduced to some basic knots and lashing Other Activities:
➢ Groups can also sign up for special activities which will be offered at various times during the camp. Groups must register in advance for these activities and time slots will be assigned prior to the camp.

The list of special activities may be increased based on offers of service and interest; keep an eye on the Wilderness Challenge web-site for up-dates.
o Rope making - an almost lost Scouting Skill.
o Croquet – participate in a “sport” from BP’s time. A special course will be set up to introduce cubs to a scout version of this game from Victorian times

Wilderness Challenge Program
Campfire Saturday September 24th and Wilderness Challenge Activities for Cubs Sunday September 25th

Cuboree groups will be part of the Wilderness Challenge campfire Saturday night and will do the Wilderness Challenge activity course on Sunday September 25th. The Wilderness Challenge activity course will take much of the day so groups should plan on a departure later on Sunday (approximately 5:00pm).

Offers of Service for the Cuboree
➢ Offers of Service (volunteers) for the Cuboree program should register through the offer of service section of the Wilderness Challenge web site. Offers of Service for the cuboree need only be available on the Saturday from about 10:00am to 5pm but are welcome to volunteer for other Wilderness Challenge activities during the weekend. Wilderness Challenge offers a food plan for volunteers and Offers of Service for the Cuboree are encouraged to sign up for the plan. Offers of Service do not have to stay for the whole event - you can help with a specific activity or come out for the whole camp.
